Lessons from launching a micro-SaaS: From zero users to first paying customer

Building software in isolation is comfortable; showing incomplete prototypes to actual people is terrifying. When we started building our tool, we spent three full weeks obsessing over dark mode toggles, micro-animations, and edge-case database schemas before talking to a single target user.

That was our first major mistake. The moment we stripped out the secondary fluff and released a barebones version that solved one specific pain point, we received immediate, actionable feedback.

Three key takeaways for early builders: Launch uncomfortably early: If your first version doesn't make you slightly embarrassed, you waited too long. Talk directly to users: Five 10-minute video calls give more clarity than weeks of staring at Google Analytics. Charge early: Willingness to pay is the only true validation that you are solving an actual problem rather than building an interesting toy.
