Accidental physics bug: Turning our harmless inventory cat into an orbital missile
We spent the last three days trying to implement a simple "pet the stray cat" mechanic in our cozy pixel farming game. It was supposed to be a relaxing mini-interaction where your character crouches down, a heart emoji pops up, and you gain +5 stamina.
Instead, a misplaced negative float value in our collision bounding box inverted the character's friction coefficient. Now, whenever you interact with the cat on uneven terrain: The physics engine interprets the petting animation as a continuous downward velocity. Velocity accumulates exponentially every frame without drag. The cat launches your farmer straight through the skybox at Mach 4, leaving the farm village behind in an apocalyptic dust cloud. Our playtesters universally voted to keep it in the game as a feature rather than fixing the bug. Development is going great.
